A Framework for Formation
The 7Cs of Christian Leadership Formation
Seven movements through which God forms leaders from the inside out.
Formation is rarely linear. The 7Cs are a cycle the Spirit walks us through — again and again — to shape character, conviction, and the way we lead (2 Corinthians 3:18). Read slowly. You can enter the cycle wherever you actually are.
- 1
Conviction
The Spirit gently names what is true — the gap between who we are and who we are being formed into.
John 16:8 · "When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment."
- 2
Contrition
The heart breaks tenderly over sin, disobedience, and idols — a grief that turns toward mercy, not shame.
Psalm 51:17 · "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."
- 3
Confession
What was hidden is named — to God, and often to one trusted other — where forgiveness and healing meet us.
1 John 1:9 · "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
- 4
Change
Repentance is direction, not perfection — the slow turning of mind, heart, and habit toward Christ.
Romans 12:2 · "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
- 5
Conversion
Identity and allegiance return to Christ — we belong to Him before our role, results, or reputation.
Galatians 2:20 · "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me."
- 6
Consecration
We set ourselves apart — body, time, gifts — for what God is doing in and through us.
Romans 12:1 · "Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship."
- 7
Communion & Celebration
Formation rests in Him. We feast at His table, give thanks for the small turns, and walk the cycle again.
Psalm 16:11 · "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence."
The cycle repeats as God forms deeper character. There is no finish line — only deepening.

A Prayer
Holy Spirit, meet me in the movement You are already walking me through.
Where there is conviction, give me a heart that turns rather than hides.
Where there is grief, hold me in mercy.
Where there is change, give me patience with the slow turning.
And bring me, again and again, to Your table — where formation rests in You.
Amen.
Pass it on
Formation isn’t meant to be walked alone.
Is there another leader in your life who is carrying a heavy load right now? You can leave a quiet door open for them — no pressure, no reply needed.
