A Framework for Formation
Integrated Christian Leadership
Four movements. One life.
Christian leadership is not a single skill — it is four movements held together. Most frameworks over-index on one: identity without obedience becomes self-help; mission without care becomes ambition; care without mission becomes sentiment; obedience without identity becomes legalism.
The best Christian leaders integrate all four. They are not chosen between; they are tended together. Sit with each movement below (Colossians 1:17).
Abide
Identity
Whose am I, and from whom do I lead?
Before any role, result, or reputation, you are loved. Integrated leadership begins by leading from belovedness rather than for it. (John 15:5).
Sit with
· Where have you been leading from your role rather than your identity in Christ?
· What would change today if you began with abiding rather than achieving?
A short prayer
Father, root me in You before I lead for You. Let me lead from belovedness.
Walking it out
Begin the workday with one minute of stillness, naming who you belong to.

Obey
Alignment
Am I living and leading in step with what God has already shown me?
Alignment is not perfectionism; it is the small, daily turning of decisions, calendar, and posture toward what God has already said. (Micah 6:8).
Sit with
· Where is your calendar or decision-making out of step with what you know God has invited?
· What single, small alignment would the Spirit have you make this week?
A short prayer
Spirit, where I have drifted, gently turn me. Show me one faithful adjustment.
Walking it out
Name one recurring decision this week and bring it to God before you make it.

Shepherd
Care
Am I tending the people God has entrusted to me — including myself?
Care is not a soft add-on to leadership; it is the shape of it. Christ shepherds — He does not use. Integrated leaders refuse to trade people for outcomes. (1 Peter 5:2).
Sit with
· Who in your circle of influence is being used by you rather than shepherded?
· Where is your own soul under-cared for, and what would tending it look like this week?
A short prayer
Good Shepherd, help me tend the people You have entrusted to me as You tend me.
Walking it out
Notice one person you'd usually 'manage' this week, and ask them a slower question.
Sit with
Build
Mission
What is God building through me — and am I joining Him there?
Mission is not your platform; it is His purpose flowing through your particular life. Integrated leaders build what God is building, not what would impress. (Ephesians 2:10).
Sit with
· Where is your work driven by what God is building, and where is it driven by what would impress?
· What is one small way your influence could further God's mission this week?
A short prayer
Lord, let me build what You are building. Free me from what only feeds my name.
Walking it out
Name one initiative you're carrying and ask, 'Is this Yours, or mine?' Then act on the answer.

Integrated, not sequential
Held together, walked daily
Identity, Alignment, Care, and Mission overlap and shape one another. You are not finishing them in order; you are letting the Spirit form you across all four at once. Notice where God is forming you today — and where He is gently asking you to grow.

A Prayer
Father, root me in identity before I lead from role.
Spirit, align my steps with what You have already shown me.
Jesus, teach me to shepherd the people You have entrusted to me as You shepherd me.
And in mission, let me build only what You are building.
Hold these four together in me. Amen.
Pass it on
Formation isn’t meant to be walked alone.
Is there another leader in your life who is carrying a heavy load right now? You can leave a quiet door open for them — no pressure, no reply needed.
