Part 5 of 6
The Weight of Approval & Performance
Opening reflection
Many leaders quietly carry the fear of disappointing people.
Approval becomes difficult to release. Performance becomes identity. Rest becomes complicated.
But the soul cannot remain healthy when it is constantly performing for affirmation.
Scripture
"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?" (Galatians 1:10)
Galatians 1:10
A scripture to lean on
Calling on Jesus for help
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:14–16)
When approval feels heavy, we do not have to perform our way back to peace. Jesus is not distant from this struggle — He has lived inside it. The invitation is simply to come, weakness and all, and receive grace for today.
An inner posture to sit with
Not indifference — freedom
I care deeply about people, but my identity and stability are rooted in God rather than human approval or rejection.
The invitation is not indifference, but freedom — the kind that allows a leader to remain humble, teachable, courageous, and tender without becoming enslaved to approval or crushed by criticism.

Prayer
Jesus, anchor my identity more deeply in Your love. Free me from the exhaustion of constant proving. Amen.
Walking
With God this week — and, if you can, with someone.
Take one quiet moment today to remind yourself: “I have nothing to prove to earn God's love.”
